With 56 ethnic groups, China is very rich in ethnic cultures, but many of them are disappearing due to insufficient dissemination efforts. “Station 56” is a systematic design project that I did to promote the dissemination of China’s multi-ethnic culture. It is divided into two parts: online website and on-site installation.

People can learn about the handicraft products and production processes of representative ethnic groups in the website. For example, the batik of the Miao, the paper-cutting of the Man and the embroidery of the Dong.

The on-site installation can assist in promoting the online website in scenarios such as shopping malls. The animation machine in the upper part of the hand-cranked installation allows for interactive animations of ethnic handicrafts; the QR code on the floor can be scanned to learn more about them.
